The word construction has vast meaning in the modern world. It is not a mere concrete structure with a purpose anymore. The aesthetic aspect of a building gets equal importance that makes each construction, a masterpiece of the century. In this section let us see few such wonders

BURJ KHALIFA

Burj Khalifa at Dubai, an example for the sophisticated construction is designed after Islamic principles of architecture. With 200 floors and a height of 828 meters, it is the tallest building in 2018. This remarkable building is designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merill (SOM), America and the main construction material used is reinforced concrete.

QUEEN SOFIA PALACE OF ARTS

Anything Spanish is creative and adventurous and Queen Sofia Palace Of Arts is not different. With 17 floors, it is the tallest Opera Houses in the World. Its roof is made of steel and designed to stand free. Queen Sofia Palace Of Arts is designed by the well-known Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

CCTC HEADQUARTERS

Yet another architectural wonder that attracted world’s attention is the CCTV Headquarters situated at Beijing. The two- tower building connected with a bridge and resembling a geometrical shape is famed as ‘three-dimensional cranked loop’. This complicated yet well-balanced building is designed and made to hold up even during earthquakes.

TAIPEI 101

TAIPEI 101, the tallest building till 2004 has height of 504 meters and spire at the top. Designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners, a Taiwanese architectural firm, it resembles a pagoda at the top and each floor is made to look like bamboo flowers reflecting Chinese culture. Its climate responsive feature like blue-green glass curtain walls protects the building from heat and ultraviolet rays by 50%. As Taiwan is a country that faces typhoons and earthquakes quite often, a tuned mass damper is integrated within the structure. The 660-ton steel swinging sphere that hangs between the 87th and 92nd acts as a stabilizing force.
